This marks a significant change for businesses relying on this operating system for daily operations.

What Does “End of Life” Mean?

When an operating system reaches its end of life, it no longer receives updates from Microsoft, including critical security patches and software improvements. This can leave devices vulnerable to cyber threats and compatibility issues with newer software.

Why Is This Happening?

Microsoft has shifted its focus to Windows 11, which offers enhanced security features, improved performance, and a modernized user interface. By retiring Windows 10, the company aims to encourage users to adopt the latest technology and stay protected against emerging threats.

What Should You Do?

Assess Your Current Systems: Take stock of all devices running Windows 10 and determine their role in your business operations.

Plan for an Upgrade: Evaluate whether your hardware is compatible with Windows 11 or if new devices are needed. Upgrading early ensures a smoother transition.

Review Software Dependencies: Ensure that your essential software and applications are compatible with Windows 11.

Consult with IT Professionals: Partner with an IT support company like Ace IT Limited to create a tailored migration plan that minimizes disruptions.

The Risks of Staying on Windows 10

Continuing to use an unsupported operating system can:

Expose your business to increased security threats.

The start of 2024 finds Ace IT celebrating its 10th Birthday! Much has happened over the last decade and it’s fantastic to think that we are still learning, improving, and growing.

Of course, we could not have done this without our fantastic team and amazing customers. A huge thank-you to everyone who has put their trust in us and allowed us to build something special.

We have lots of updates coming in 2024 as we plan to bring in new products along with streamlined billing and the ability to pay by Direct Debit. If you are reading this you have already found our new website with our new Logo, a little bit of a makeover never goes amiss when you reach a milestone Birthday!

Back in 2014 when we started Ace IT we knew we wanted to do things a little differently, focusing on customer service ahead of sales targets and the latest gadgets. That friendly and can-do nature has helped us grow way beyond what we first envisioned.

We can’t wait to get started in 2024. IT is always changing, the challenges and threats become more complex and the possibilities even greater. Exciting times are ahead and we look forward to sharing them with you.

We recently installed a remote desktop server at one of our clients based in the East Midlands. With a requirement for home working due to Covid-19 our client was experiencing difficulties connecting to their large data files and applications over traditional VPN’s.

The new server allows people to access a “Remote Desktop” which is similar to remote controlling a computer based in the office. This allows them full access to the systems, files and software which they normally use. It has vastly improved their use of applications which were proving cumbersome and
slow over a VPN when working remotely.

The solution was installed alongside their existing servers with no downtime. When ready we moved the remote users over one by one, offering remote help and assistance as needed.

They now have a robust remote platform allowing them the freedom to easily switch between the office and home working.

Ace IT Solutions offer a free IT review to businesses in the East Midlands. If you would like us to visit your organisation to look at the systems you are using, and then present you with a simple to understand
report, please get in touch.

At the start of April we helped one of our non-profit Derby based clients move their files from an onsite server to SharePoint.

At the start of April we helped one of our non-profit Derby based clients move their files from an onsite server to SharePoint. SharePoint is part of the Office365 suite and allows for the easy management and sharing of documents within an organistaion.

The file existing server was already due to be replaced and with an increased desire for home working due to Covid-19 the migration was carried out completely remotely. At the start of the pandemic they needed to connect their laptops back to the office via a VPN to access their traditional file stores. Whilst this worked to a degree, it was somewhat cumbersome with large files proving particularly problematic.

Working remotely ourselves we migrated each shared area to SharePoint. Once in the Microsoft cloud users could easily access the files from their laptop and additionally a mobile device such as tablet or mobile.

As each share moved we remote controlled onto each users machine to demonstrate the new settings and ways of working. Each site had different security settings applied meaning for example that HR and Accounts data could be kept secure from general viewing.

Each user has their own logon to Office 365 which is protected via Two Factor Authentication. This means that they need to provide a code from their mobile phone before logging onto SharePoint on a new machine, thus increasing security of their data.

With each user having an Office365 license for Office, Email and SharePoint they can edit their documents in the cloud from anywhere, or choose to download the documents to their machines for editing in the traditional Office packages such as Word and Excel.

Ace IT have helped many organisations move their data, email and applications to the cloud. If you would like a free no obligation IT review on how we can help you business then please get in touch.

The first two weeks of December have been very busy with Ace IT helping four of our clients move into new offices.

The first two weeks of December have been very busy with Ace IT helping four of our clients move into new offices. Moving office is never easy, and with IT connectivity vital for any business it can be a stressful time. But with proper planning we can help your move go smoothly.

Over the course of a weekend we assisted in moving a client with around 40 staff members to new offices. A month before the move we replaced the old analogue phone system with a modern IP based system giving them the flexibility to easily move when the time came. In the days before the move we installed extra network cabling in the new offices along with a new Wi-Fi network. On the Friday evening we moved the servers, phone system, internet routers and switches to the new site and had this all running by 8PM. On the Saturday we worked with our client to reconnect all the desktop PC’s, printers and phone handsets so that everything was operational for Monday morning.

Moving office can be a stressful time. Let Ace IT get your systems moved, connected and tested ready for the next working day.

Glen Palmer-Barnes | Technical Director

With expansion in mind another one of our clients has taken ownership of a neighbouring office on their business park. We installed new Wi-Fi and switches in the new building and working with their 3rd party data provider connected the two buildings via a new fibre-optic link. They can now seamlessly move from office to office, with their devices and phones working exactly the same wherever they connect in.

Once again over a weekend we helped a 50 employee client move to new offices. The server, firewall and switches were moved and configured on the Friday evening with the telephone handsets, computers and printers being connected on the Saturday. As their new offices were much larger they also purchased additional Wi-Fi access points to give them both a secure internal network and a guest network for visitors.

Our final move of the fortnight was helping one of our smaller clients move from their old serviced office to a new purpose built home office. Once BT had been to install the new broadband connection we visited site and connected everything up to make sure they could get on line and access their Networked Attached Storage unit and printer.

Each move involved us working with numerous third parties, attending planning meetings and getting physically involved on the day of the move. Wherever moving to new premises or just wanting to make better use of the building your already have, Ace IT can help with all your networking, Wi-fi and internet connectivity requirements.
